- The seven-year warranty is for serious structural defects that could compromise the structural integrity of the house or lead to structural failure.

When it comes to condominiums, Tarion's warranty also provides ample protection. The seven-year coverage period ensures that structural defects and violations that could affect the usability of your unit are covered. Interestingly, this warranty also extends to common elements like elevators, parking garages, and hallways for one year.

The journey of making a warranty claim is quite straightforward. As soon as you notice an issue, you should notify your builder, provide them with access to your home, and maintain a record of all your communications.

If the issue remains unresolved, you can submit a warranty claim form to Tarion. Following their assessment of your claim, Tarion will facilitate a resolution between you and your builder. However, be mindful of the time limits: you have seven years to file for serious structural defects, and one or two years for other defects, depending on their type.

Should you find yourself in a dispute with your builder over a warranty claim, Tarion has a dispute resolution process in place. You can request a conciliation, following which Tarion may send an inspector to evaluate the situation and suggest appropriate repairs.
